What type of files can I send to print?
Files need to have bleed (1/4″), be CMYK and have a 300 dpi resolution. We recommend saving files as .JPS you may also send the file in the following types: jpg, jpeg, tif, pdf.
• Photoshop (psd) – save to jpg, tiff, pdf
• Adobe Illustrator (.ai or .eps) – Fonts need to be converted to outlines/curves
• Adobe InDesign (.indd) Exported as PDF
Low resolution files may be printed as is with a clients written consent or will be placed on hold until we receive new files, slowing your turn-around.
What is UV and AQ?
UV and AQ are abbreviations for the kind of coating used on the print products we offer.
AQ (Aqueous Coating) is a water based finish that helps protect and coat your job as is being printed this is our standar gloss coating.
UV (Ultraviolet Coating) is a clear liquid spread over the paper like ink and then curred instantly with ultraviolet light. Uv coating protects more your Aqueous Coating printed work.
UV one side (ultraviolet one side coating) this option is recomended for postcards mailing customers or customers whom like to be able to write on one side. This option combines the hig impact gloss of UV and Aqueous coating. Be aware that this process tales a bit more time than our standard printed products.
What is a bleed? How much should I have?
A bleed is extra area outside of your document that is trimmed off to insure proper cuts. To simplify it – your background should extend off to the edge of your design. For example: if you have a 4×6 your have to add an extra 0.125 on each side. The piece you submit must be 4.25×6.25.
We require that all designs have 1/4 (0.25) bleed around, if less that that is left, we cannot be held responsible for unequal borders from top to bottom or from side to side. This is due to the final cutting process and a print industry standard.
Bleed is required on all jobs. No Exceptions!
Although our production staff is extremely precise, we cant guarantee any print job submitted with out the required bleed. Make sure you keep all text 1/4″ text away from edge in the “safe” area “Bleed” is a printing term used to indicate the area that will be trimmed off after If you have any questions referred to “file prep” or you may call us.
All files must incorporate a 1/8″ bleed on all four sides
Since the bleed extends 1/8″ all around the card, your document set-up should be 1/4″ taller (1/8″ on top and 1/8″ on the bottom) and 1/4″ wider (1/8″ on the left and 1/8″ on the right) than the finished size of the card. The chart below indicates what the document set-up should be for a particular finished size.
What quantities do you print?
We print quantities as low as 500 up to a million or more! Anything not listed on our website can be quoted as a custom order.
What color mode should my files be?
We only work with CMYK files. You should always start and finish your designs in CMYK color mode.
If you send us an RGB file, there is a chance that a color shift may occur and you may not be satisfied with your job.
How can I set up a Spot UV job?
When creating a Spot UV job, You must include a Spot UV template file along with the regular full color file. The Spot UV template file is used to show where the UV will be placed.
How can I make sure my blues do not come out purple?
When using a blue in your design, always make sure to leave at least a 30% difference in your Cyan and Magenta values.
100% C 100% M 0% Y 0% K
Blue is close to purple in the CMYK spectrum. Remember, use a low amount of magenta whenever using high amounts of cyan to avoid purple.
How should I set up a Plastic Card Job?
When designing plastic cards, it is important to keep in mind that the frosted and clear plastic cards are transparent. Also, all plastic cards come with round corners at no extra charge!
Since there is no white ink in CMYK, it is important to keep in mind that the frosted and clear plastic cards are transparent. You will notice that the white area in the clear cards (right) and the frosted cards (center) has no ink and will show the transparent material it’s printed on. In this case, the clear cards and frosted cards white area show up with no ink on the printed piece. Also, keep in mind that all colors that are printed on clear cards or frosted cards will be transparent as well.
With the clear plastic cards, there might be a small percentage that may have light scratches. This issue originates from the manufacturer and is due to the material and handling. To help compensate for this, we run overs of the clear plastic cards to help meet the required quantity.
Clear plastic cards will come with a thin protective layer on one side that can be peeled off. This is to prevent the cards from scratching during packaging and shipping.
